Men's Ministry

Our Purpose: To raise godly men who will put their trust in God and walk by faith, that they might grow in maturity!

Goal: To encourage and disciple men in their relationship with the Lord. We here at Calvary Chapel Landers know and believe that when men change their minds about God, He will then change their hearts, causing them to be effective spiritual leaders of their homes--men who have practical common sense, who love their wives and their kids, who’s leadership will make a difference in their church, in their communities and at their jobs--men who will be committed to the Lord, and men who can say with Paul imitate me for I follow Christ.

2 Peter 3:17–18 (NKJV)

You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV)

As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

We have Men’s Daybreak every 2nd Saturday of the month @ 8:am. We meet in the Fellowship Hall located in the Vintage Building

Our History

Landers Community Church

Before we were known as Calvary Chapel Landers we were known as Landers Community Church it was established by prayer on April 11th 1962. The church started out as a prayer meeting, they began meeting for Sunday School and Church services at the woman's club located at the Coppock building on Reche rd. and at Elmer and Bertha Thompsons house on Desideria Rd. The core group was made up of Elmer and Bertha Thompson, Otto Martin, Goldie Winters, and Thelma Booth, they would be the main force in contacting the people for church. The pastor that was leading at the time was Pastor Harvey Randels, as the church grew, they began looking for a permanent place to worship, Mr. and Mrs. Newland Landers were led by the Lord, to donate some property for the church next to the Post Office in October of 1962, unfortunately there was a well next to the septic line and building codes kept them from building on that land.

They moved their bible study to a cabin on Reche Rd. which is now Halliday's Market, the owner allowed them to start having meeting as a church there, it was then that Joseph and Allene Mettling donated 1 1/4 acres of their 5 acres so that the church could be built on what is now 55474 New Dixie Mine Rd. our current address, it was at this time that the church began to see the need to formally organize itself into a legitimate non denominational church with elected deacons and elders, unfortunately Pastor Randels disagreed and resigned as Pastor. Once the land was provided God led Pastor Charles Haynie to the church.

Pastor Charles would lend his hand to the building of the church, and Dr. David Schmidt would help with the incorporation of the church and it would be formally incorporated as Landers Community Church on May 3rd 1963 Many volunteers would lend their hand to the work of God and he blessed it.

on the day of dedication the news papers reported that over 150 people showed up to the little church in Landers it was standing room only! It was said that this was the only church around for 13 miles! Pastor Charles would lead the church while holding down a full time job, traveling from El Monte and raising his family.

On May 16th 1968, Pastor John Utterback would begin to lead the church along with his wife Florence, unfortunately by January 17th 1969 Pastor John would have to resign because of his wife ill health. On March 6 1969 Pastor Charles Ashley would become the interim pastor for the church, but by November 1969 Pastor Lloyd Holt would accept and become the permanent Pastor at the church, Pastor Holt along with his wife Emily had great vision for the church, and would lead the church into new areas of ministry they had never seen before, God would bless his leadership and the church would outgrow its original building and they would build a new Sanctuary, complete with a baptistry, the church would continue to grow and they would eventually have three services it was said to have served 300 people over the three services, they had the services aired over the radio to the local community of Landers as well, they would have Singspirations at the church, they had a cross placed and dedicated on Goat Mountain, Pastor Holt would retire in as far as I can tell in 1989 or 90, other pastors had sought to lead but eventually would leave, the church was in need of a pastor, eventually the Lord would lead Tyrone Bridges to the church, as he would be encouraged to come out to the church and take over as pastor fresh out of Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel Bible College, it was then that their would be a move for change and the congregation agreed that they should now make the move from being called Landers Community Church to Calvary Chapel Landers, Pastor Tye would lead the church for four years, after he resigned, Pastor Jim Arnold and his wife Lorie would come to lead the church, he had many outreaches, and community projects that they would be involved in, he made many improvements to the church, but after seven years he would resign. It would be at this time that God would lead Pastor Ruben Vasquez and his wife Virginia to lead the church as a potential candidate in February 2012 and then permanently in May 2012 and has been blessed with the privilege of leading Calvary Chapel Landers to this day.

A Note from Pastor Ruben... I would just like to let the Community of Landers know that my wife and I are extremely privileged to be able to serve the Lord here, and its our desire to glorify Jesus Christ through our service to Him. Here at Calvary Chapel Landers we teach the whole council of God, that means we teach the bible systematically, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. This I believe is the only way we can have a healthy church and reach others for Jesus Christ if you want to hear the bible taught in way that is simple and transparent we welcome you, all are welcome to come and hear what Jesus has to say to you through His word the Bible. Someone once said that "it takes teaching the whole bible to make a whole person to reach the whole world"

Note: It's been difficult to track down the history of this little church and I'm sure we are missing some of the names of past pastors and may even have some dates mixed up and things like this so if you have any history info we welcome it, you can contact us at the church office or by email, thank you. -Pastor Ruben

The History Of Calvary Chapel

In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry @ Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just 25 people. From the beginning, Pastor Chuck welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, placing his emphasis on the teaching of the Word of God. His simple, yet sound biblical approach drew 25,000 people weekly. With sincere concern for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his heart and his home for a generation of hippies and surfers, generating a movement of the Holy Spirit that spread from the West Coast to the East Coast, and now throughout the world. What began as a small local church has now grown into an international ministry of over 15,00 fellowships throughout the world.

We invite you to find out more about who we are, what we believe, and we invite you to Join us, meet and worship our glorious and wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as we study His Word, fellowship together, grow in his grace, and desire to make disciples and to go into all the world and preach the gospel. -Pastor Ruben

Children's Ministry

Infants - 6th grades

Our Purpose:

To provide a safe, loving, and fun environment where kids can be ministered to at their level! This ministry is provided so that kids don’t have to get in trouble or be bored in the “big church.” We want to give them room to be themselves, ask questions and learn about how much Jesus loves them! This style of ministry not only allows your child to grow to a place where they can make a personal decision to accept Jesus, but it also allows you, the parent, to be able to relax and be ministered to by the Lord. As you worship and hear what God has to say to you, your children will be able to worship and hear what God has to say to them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of heaven.” and that’s what we are trying to do.

Matthew 19:14

"But Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.’"

Our Goal:

To minister to your child right where they are at, to teach them about the love of God through teaching them the bible, by ministering to them through worship, and by having some good old-fashioned fun! We believe in this way that children will grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus and be conformed to His image.
